Use case

Certificates for nonprofits and volunteers

Volunteer hours, service milestones, and thank-yous for people who gave their time. Free, because the budget is going somewhere more useful.

The problem

Recognition matters most where budget is thinnest

Volunteers are usually thanked in words. A certificate is the version they can keep, put in a portfolio, or show a future employer — and it has to cost nothing.

  • No design budget, and rightly so

Money spent on certificate software is money not spent on the cause, and that trade-off is hard to justify to a board.

  • Volunteers need proof of hours

Students, jobseekers, and people on placements often need documented hours for an application, so 'thank you so much' isn't enough.

  • Whoever makes it has ten other jobs

In a small organisation, certificates are the eleventh priority for the person who coordinates volunteers.

The generator is right here. Pick a design, fill in the details, download the file.

Best on a screen at least 900px wide. Certificates render at print resolution and are yours to use commercially. Fair-use limit: 10 downloads an hour, 40 a day.

Need certificates your recipients can verify? CertSeal issues them in bulk from a spreadsheet, puts a unique verification link and QR code on every one, and emails them out for you.

What you get

What this gives a small organisation

  • Genuinely free, no tier to outgrow

No trial that expires, no card required, and no watermark to pay to remove.

  • Room to record hours and dates

Enough space in the body text for hours served, the period covered, and the programme name — which is what a placement supervisor wants to see.

  • Warm designs as well as formal ones

Appreciation certificates should look like a thank-you rather than a compliance document.

  • Works for one-off events

Fine for a single fundraiser as well as a year-long placement.

  • Anyone on the team can use it

No account means no licence to share and no one person holding the keys.

  • Print or send digitally

Print for an awards evening, or send the PNG to volunteers who've moved on.

Frequently asked questions

Questions

Is it free for charities and nonprofits?
Yes — free for everyone, with no watermark and no signup. There's no separate nonprofit application because there's nothing to pay for.
Can I record volunteer hours on the certificate?
Yes. Put the hours and the period into the body text, for example '120 hours of volunteer service during 2026'.
Can a volunteer use this as proof for a job application?
It's a signed record from your organisation, which is usually accepted. If the recipient needs something a third party can independently verify, that requires a verification URL — a CertSeal account feature.
Can we add our charity's logo?
Not in the free tool. Logo upload comes with a CertSeal account.
We have 60 volunteers to thank after our annual event.
The fair-use cap is 40 downloads a day, so 60 means splitting it over two days — or using bulk issuing, which does the whole list from a spreadsheet.

Need more than one at a time?

If a funder or placement provider needs to confirm that hours are genuine, a verification URL is the thing that turns a nice document into evidence.
